As time slip away thought drift towards Graduate Fashion Week, so I took some time to look at previous Graduates. This is when I came across the recipient of David Bands Textiles Award Sarika Pancholli. Her collection was amazing, I loved the contemporary way of layering knitwear and the use of materials such as shoelaces, straws, lolly-pop sticks and whistles.

The interview below provided me with some useful information for my future career and just reminded me of how I just need to KEEP GOING!

Graduate Fashion Week: Hi Sarika, so what’s happened since we last you at Graduate Fashion Week last year?

Sarika Pancholli: A two month placement at River island as a knitwear assistant, worked locally with suppliers of womenswear and interned at Vivienne Westwood for 3 months. I also showcased my collection in front of the Queen and the Duchess of Cambridge During the Diamond Jubilee tour to Leicester.

GFW: How did GFW help you prepare for a role in the fashion industry?

SP: Got to meet a great selection of mentors, giving great advice on how to progress and where to begin.

GFW: What has been the highlight of your journey so far?

SP: Experiencing different fields!

GFW: What has been the hardest point of your career so far and how have you/how do you plan to over come it?

SP: Convincing employers that you are capable, just pushing myself into trying new things to show diversity, and that you are flexible to changes.

GFW: If you could travel back in time to your final year at university and tell your past self one thing- what would it be?

SP: Keep going!

GFW: Based on your own personal experience - how would you recommend future graduates prepare for Graduate Fashion Week this year?

SP: Show who you are, this is your chance to give all your creativity a new level, don’t be shy!

GFW: How did it feel to be awarded one of the highest commendations at Graduate Fashion Week?

SP: It was a real shock, but truly grateful for the recognition.

GFW: What three things would you say have helped you achieve your success so far?

SP: Culture, DMU, Destiny.
